Collin Stories

According to Robyn Bost, Collin’s mom, the purpose behind Collin’s Kids-The David Foundation, is for the memory of Collin to continue and to help the children of Horry County.Over The organization’s work, has paid for beds for children who didn’t have beds in their homes, a handicap accessible van, clothing, Christmas toys and gifts, and snacks and other necessities for summer programs in partnership with Help for Kids.

Over the years,  Steve Rabon, Collin’s dad, and Robyn have found that the organization and its work sources  peace and pathways of healing. Telling and hearing stories about Collin and providing help to children have given his parents the opportunity to share his memory and do what he would want them to do.  According to Bost, Collin would think “it is the coolest thing EVER that he is helping all these kids.”
As it is the foundation’s mission to keep Collin’s memory going, we want your help in keeping Collin’s memory alive and encourage you to share your stories on this page. Our goal is to share these stories so that everyone will know just how special Collin was and how special and important the work of the foundation is.

Collin’s Stories

Robyn Bost

“Every year I put a message for Collin’s birthday on Facebook. One time Thomas Crosland commented with,”I remember the time I was outside washing the car or vacuuming it out, and Collin came by. We were just talking’ [Collin would talk to anybody; didn’t matter your age. He preferred adults] ‘He said, “Mr. Thomas, you got some Coca Cola?” He said, ‘Yea, Collin, I do.’ So he went in and got him some Coca Cola, Talked a little more, then Collin said,’Mr. Thomas, you got some fried chicken?’ Thomas didn’t have any fried chicken, but the idea that Collin was comfortable enough to ask for fried chicken of all things,[He wouldn’t know unless he asked] just speaks so much about who he was and how it didn’t matter how old or how young a person was. He could and would talk to anybody.”

“On another visit to the Crosland house, Collin rang the doorbell. Marcia answered the door, and Collin said,’Mrs. Marcia, will you come play basketball with me?  I have been to every house in the neighborhood, and I can’t find anybody to play with me.’ He didn’t really see anybody as an age. He always saw them as people.”

The connection between David Bennett and Collin was perfect. You never knew what either one of them might say, and that is what made it so cool.  One time we were at Dale’s Seafood in Tabor City eating, and we started telling “knock knock” jokes. When It was Collin’s time, somebody said, ‘Alright Collin, it’s your turn.’ He said, ‘Knock knock.’ Someone asked -Who’s there? ‘Fork.’ Fork who? ‘A fork is not a knife.’ And we all just fell out laughing. Everybody laughed.  And now, every time  someone tells a knock knock joke, that one gets told, and we all crack up.  It’s so not funny, but it’s funny. As crazy as it was, it just shows you the way his mind worked. We had good times, and between David and Collin, when they were together, you just didn’t know what was going to happen.
